The Perfect Game Day or After School Treat: Pizza Rolls

Posted by

The easiest dish I can think of to throw together after school or for a party or even a quick dinner is pigs-in-a-blanket. Just unroll croissants, place half a hot dog and cheese inside, roll, and bake to the directions on the can of the croissants. It takes 15 minutes!

But I thought there’s got to be something more we can do here…

Pizza Rolls

So I got a few cans of croissants together and every topping for a pizza I could think of, and the result was warm, savory, and delicious -Pizza Rolls. Why not through your favorite pizza ingredients into a roll, bake ‘em, and then dip in whatever sauce you’d like? You can keep them whole for the kids after school, or cut them in half and serve as a bite sized appetizer at your next party. They really are a no-brainer, and if you use tinfoil, clean up is a breeze.

We really enjoyed the bbq chicken pizza rolls with some fresh chives. These were closely followed by the pepperoni rolls. You can just use the meat in the roll or add a small veggie, like chives, olives, or mushrooms. Throw a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese on before you roll, then bake to the directions on the croissant can. We found that using the sauce to dip the rolls into worked best (rather than putting it into the rolls). Try it with bacon, meatballs, pepperoni, bbq chicken, Canadian bacon, cheese, or even garlic and anything else you can think of. Have the kids help and make a night out of it. They don’t have to be pretty, as long as the ingredients are in the dough, they should bake up just fine. Let us know what combinations you come up with!

Another thing I did was use turkey meatballs, pepperoni, and hot dogs, to lighten the meal up a bit. Your kids won’t know the difference. I know that the croissants aren’t very healthy, but at least you can take comfort in what you’re putting inside.
